Galen Films produces social documentaries with a focus on children’s human rights. Over the past 15 years, we have produced a trilogy of films that focus on the causes and best practice solutions to child labor, children on the streets and chronic poverty. We also advocate for children before government agencies, on campuses, at conferences and through our participation in a unique online community, MEDIA VOICES FOR CHILDREN.
Produced over a seven year period, STOLEN CHILDHOODS has been called the definitive global view of child labor. Filmed in eight countries and narrated by Meryl Streep, the film has been released theatrically in the U.S. and shown all over the world.
RESCUING EMMANUEL tells the story of a 13 year-old street boy from Nairobi, Kenya whose name, ironically, means “God with us.” Emmanuel will not be ignored and his personal story is a window into the life of 100 million children like him who live and die on the streets.
THE SAME HEART, (to be released in 2013) examines initiatives to end chronic poverty in a sustainable way. It includes commentary from seven Nobel Peace Laureates as well as ethicist Peter Singer and follows the footsteps of community organizer, Geoffrey Bakhuya, as he revisits his birth village of Shivagala in western Kenya.
