THE SAME HEART is a film about ongoing efforts to end chronic poverty in one of the poorest places on earth, western Kenya. Told in the voice of a young Kenyan community organizer, Geoffrey Bakhuya, who returns to his birth village of Shivagala, where he finds orphaned children raising themselves, families and friends lost to HIV, grandmothers raising their grandchildren and widespread hunger.
Each day, 20,000 children die of wholly preventable illness, malnutrition and hunger. How do we prevent this from happening? The Same Heart includes commentary from seven Nobel Peace Laureates: Wangari Maathai, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, F.W. De Klerk, Carlos Belo, Shirin Ebadi, Lech Walesa, Mairead Maguire and ethicist Peter Singer.
“If you have the same heart in the whole world, the rich nations to support the poor nations, not exploit them, this is something we would like to see. We want reformers, people to change this world to be a better place to live in.”
– Geoffrey Bahuya, community organizer
